A new Contract for America?

House GOP leaders look like they actually will be putting some action behind all their rhetoric, and will draft a new campaign document like 1994’s Contract with America. Minority Leader John Boehner has asked Congressman Kevin McCarthy from California to draft the document.

The purpose of the document is to create a central theme/platform for House Republicans to run on, creating a nationalized campaign. Likely it would also outline legislation initiatives they would pursue if the GOP was to regain the majority.

Missing from the 1994 Contract was divisive issues like abortion, but the GOP of a decade and a half ago is quite different than the radical one of today. Back in 1994, there were Republicans representing districts all through out the Northeast. Back then the GOP was a national party, one with a diverse electorate and caucus.

Hopefully GOP leaders of today will take a page from Newt’s book and not include abortion, the “sanctity of life” or however they want to spin in. Our country is in too much trouble to have those be our calling card issues.

What do you want to see in a new Contract for America??
