Real Republican Congressman Mike Castle has finally announced that he will be running for the United States Senate to represent Delaware!
“These are challenging times and we need common sense governing. On the economy, health care, national defense, or any critical issue that we face today, now is the time for independent voices and workable solutions that put people first, not politics. It has never been more important for Delaware to have the strongest and most experienced leadership to represent us in Washington. We are best served by an experienced, independent voice and that is why I am announcing my intention to run for the United States Senate.”
Congressman Castle has been serving the people of Delaware as Lieutenant Governor, Governor and the state’s only Congressman for the last 25 years. He has never lost a statewide election. This election will be for the four years left on Vice President Joe Biden’s seat, which is being kept warm in hopes that his son, state Attorney General Beau Biden, will run.
Many are scripting this as the clash of the titans in Delaware. Castle has the early polling lead, most recently up by 5. However, his second quarter fundraising did not look like he was going to be launching a major Senate campaign.
This is great news for the GOP. Democrats will have to spend and waste resources in a traditionally blue state–and popular Castle has an unbeatable record.
