MA Governor Deval Patrick has announced the special election date to replace the late Senator Ted Kennedy. The election is slated to be held January 19th, 2010.
This comes after much speculation over whether Kennedy’s last wish would be honored and an appointment would be made to his seat in the interim period so that MA would not be without a Senator. Such a move would have required a change in MA law and the MA legislature is considering honoring the request. Governor Patrick and state lawmakers plan on continuing to explore this option.
There are many names floating around for the nomination- mostly Democratic players such as Rep. Joseph Kennedy, and AG Martha Coaxley. RRM will be updating our members about any Republican players who jump into the race.
